Dear Member,

The Club has had a reasonable start since reopening with a number of Members taking advantage of the al fresco dining in Fountain Court during the good weather. Some of the services originally offered have been stopped and the opening hours are now reduced however we are fortunate to be amongst the very few Clubs open and the only one in the City.

The opening hours are now 9.00am until 5.00pm however no Member will be asked to leave after a long lunch! Breakfast, takeaways and delivery are no longer available however should anyone require just a sandwich, the kitchen will be happy to make one for Members.

During August, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Members can take advantage of the Government’s “eat out to help out” scheme which the Club has registered for. This will allow a 50% discount, up to the value of £10, on food and soft drinks. The discount cannot be applied to alcohol. Essentially Members will be able to have a “free” starter or pudding with a main course. Further details will be announced however it is expected that no vouchers will be needed.

For the rest of July and August, the bar has moved to the Members’ Dining Room to create a more conducive atmosphere whilst the numbers are low. The Members’ Bar will still be available for seating if preferred and can be opened upon request.

Progress on site has been swift in the last two months. The new roof steels and joists have been installed, the two new bedrooms have been created on the roof, the boiler room is now complete and all the air conditioning and first fix electrics and plumbing is now in. The partitioners start on site next week to start creating the bedroom shells, the new lift is due to arrive in the next fortnight and on 10th August the new roof will be started meaning that if all goes well, by the end of that month the Club will once again be watertight and the scaffold can start to come down and whilst that happens, the facade will be painted. The new Porters’ desk has been built and installed and is ready for the bedroom opening. Any Members wishing to see the site and progress are only to ask when they are in the Club.

The Club is still welcoming Reciprocal Members and colleagues of Members so do please spread the word, The City of London Club is open and welcoming all.

I look forward to seeing you as soon as you are able to make the journey to the City.

Yours sincerely

Edward Plunket
